About artist:



Roman Banaszewski was born in Janikowo in 1932. In the years 1954-1959, he studied painting and graphic arts at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow. In 1959 he graduated from the Faculty of Graphic Art in lithography under Professor Srzednicki and in poster art under Professor Makarewicz. In 1987, he was conferred the title of professor. Since his graduation he has practised graphic art, drawing and painting. His artistic output was displayed at many exhibitions in Poland and abroad.
Banaszewski's works can be found in numerous museums, art galleries and private collections in Poland and abroad, including the Ministry of Culture and Art in Warsaw; the National Museums in Warsaw and Cracow; the Museum of the Bydgoszcz Region; the Museum of Pomerania in Gdańsk; the Museum of Western Pomerania in Szczecin; the Museum in ŁódŸ; the National Museum in Poznań; the "22" Art Gallery in Oslo; Pratt Institute in New York; the Graphic Collection in Geneva; the Municipal Museum in Tokio; the Congress Library in Washington; the New Darmstadt Sezession in Darmstadt; Hessisches Parlamenthaus in Bonn; Kappler Gallery in Darmstadt; and Art & Design Gallery in Burgfelden.
Since 1978 Banaszewski has participated in annual plein-airs in Southern France. The artistic output of these plein-airs had been displayed at numerous exhibitions in France, Italy and Germany.
In the year 2000 Roman Banaszewski took part in the international Plein-Air in San José de la Esquina in Argentina and exhibited his works at the gallery of the Rosario University there. Recently (2002) the Foundation of Polish Culture awarded him the prize of the "Golden Laurel" for mastery in the arts for the year 2001.
